Terms of use
Last updated 9 October 2026.
Benchie is provided by Talecraft (Christoffer Linder), Helsinki, Finland. By using the app you agree to these terms. They are short because the app is simple.
What Benchie is
A map of public benches with ratings and check-ins from people like you. It is for sitting, not for anything you would need a lawyer for.
Your content
Ratings, notes, names and reports you submit are yours. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to show them in the app and on benchie.world, attributed to your display name, and to include them in aggregate statistics. Keep them about benches. We remove content that is abusive, that names private people, that is advertising, or that is not about a bench, and we may close accounts that keep doing it.
Being at the bench
Check-ins require you to be at the bench. Faking location, scripting check-ins or ratings, or running more than one account to climb a leaderboard gets the account removed. The benches would not respect it either.
The map
Bench positions come from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database License and are offered as they are. A bench may have moved, been removed, or be on private ground. Use your eyes. Benches you add to Benchie may be contributed back to OpenStreetMap under the ODbL.
Your safety
Presence and calls show people where you are sitting, for a limited time, to the audience you choose. Only turn them on if you are comfortable with that. Meet people in public places. Benchie does not vet anyone.
The envelope and the Benchie Star
The tester envelope (sticker, tote bag, code) is a gift for people who rate a hundred benches, sent while supplies and postage budgets last, once per person, to addresses we can reasonably post to. A Benchie Star awarded with the code is a mark in the app; it does not confer any rights over the bench, which belongs to whoever it belonged to before. The sticker is a souvenir. We do not ask anyone to put it on property that is not theirs, and we would rather you didn't.
No warranty
Benchie is provided as is. We do our best to keep it running and correct, but we cannot promise it will be available, accurate, or that a bench rated 4.8 will be as good as it sounds. To the extent allowed by law, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the past twelve months, which for most people is nothing.
Ending things
You can delete your account in the app at any time. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Finnish law applies; disputes go to the district court of Helsinki, or, if you are a consumer in the EU, to the courts of your home country.
